Windows 95 / NT 4 NeXT-like dock v1.0c

Description

This small program is a replacement for the integrated shell: Explorer (and its child, Internet Explorer 4). It is designed to be easy to use, to customize and less memory-consuming than the stupid Internet Explorer 4.

Installation

No installation program is supplied yet. The only thing you need to install is the dock.exe file (click on the link at the top of this cell to download  it). Just copy it in your windows directory (typically c:\windows for Windows 95 and c:\winnt for Windows NT) or to any directory which is in your path.
After launching it for the first time, the dock will create a directory named "Dock" in your profile directory (which is c:\windows if you don't use users profiles under Win95 or c:\%SYSTEMROOT%\profiles\%USERNAME%). For example, if you are logged in as smith, the dock directory will be c:\windows\profiles\smith under Windows 95 configured with users profiles.

How to use

To add a shortcut to a file, a folder, or a shortcut, just drag it from an explorer window to the dock. You can also use the contextual menu (right-click on the dock) to directly browse the dock.
To delete a shortcut from the dock, you can drag it off from the dock.

Remarks

  • The logo I use for the dock is the logo of the GnuStep project, a group working on a free OpenStep implementation. I hope this isn't a problem.
  • I'm working on other features to simulate more closely the behaviour of the NeXT (working "three-dots", app icons...)
  • This program is, of course, FREE. Use it at your own risks.
